What is the Lightning portal and why are Ben using it?
Ben are working with Lightning to make the funding application process as quick and safe as possible for you. Lightning is a social impact startup which uses modern and secure technology to make it quick and easy for anyone in need to apply for financial support.
Using the Lightning application portal allows you to:
Easily and securely connect your online bank accounts to provide the financial information needed to proceed with your application, instead of sending bank statements.
Create a profile that can also help you to find and apply for financial support from other providers easily and securely - all in one place.
How does it work?
First, you will receive an email from security@lightningreach.org inviting you to use the Lightning portal. Next, click on the link in the email and this will take you to a screen to verify your email address. Lightning asks you to do this to ensure they only provide access to the right person. Once you have verified your email address, you will be taken to the platform where you can connect your bank accounts and submit the documents required by Ben.
Who is Plaid?
Plaid is a technology provider that Lightning works with to make the system connect securely to your bank. The company is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Firm Reference Number: 804718). They are a trusted partner to companies ranging from popular financial technology applications to Fortune 500 companies and major banks.
If I connect my account, what will Ben grant staff see?
If you choose to use the Lightning platform, the Ben grants team will be able to view three months’ worth of your financial information for the bank accounts you connect (if any). They will also be able to see any other documents you upload.
Neither Ben nor Lightning will be able to make any changes or post transactions to your bank account.
Who will see my financial information?
Your personal financial information is only shared with Ben Grants team. No-one else will be able to see your information.
I don't want to use Lightning, is there another way I can provide my bank statements?
If you do not wish to use Lightning, please email your bank statements to your case manager who sent you the link or to casemanager.info@ben.org.uk
When will I find out the outcome of my application?
Once your case manager has received and reviewed your information they will be in touch with you to discuss your support with Ben, this will be within 5 working days.
